                 W ith patients visiting  pharmacies seeking  treatment for a wide  range of skin conditions, identifying and differentiating between the various conditions presented can be a challenge. There may be patients with skin conditions requiring immediate referral to a GP or dermatologist, while others need nothing more than treatment using over-the-counter creams or ointments. It’s therefore important to understand the different signs and symptoms between, for example, dermatitis and acne – two different and unrelated skin conditions which, if treated with the wrong products, are likely to be worsened. In this article we examine the causes of skin conditions and outline the questions that will help identify what a patient’s skin condition may be, and, in doing so, offer the best skin care advice to those patients.
