                14 NEWS EVENTS   APP2021 PROGRAM NOW AVAILABLE The much awaited program for this year’s Australian Pharmacy Professional Conference (APP) features more than 100 speakers in 60-plus sessions covering cutting edge industry issues, clinical updates, as well as finance and business management topics. Prominent speakers include Olympic cycling gold medallist Anna Meares, CommSec Chief Economist Craig James and leading retail expert Gary Mortimer. As in previous years, international speakers will feature on the program, but with overseas travel not an option in 2021, they will be participating via Zoom. They include renowned pain researcher Professor Andrew Moore from Oxford University and members of the World Pharmacy Council in the US, UK and Europe. APP2021 will also host a number of pre-conference and in- conference workshops, including those on pharmacists’ role in acute care, chronic care and vaccine preventable disease, harm minimisation, and vaccination training, plus a dedicated workshop to assist early career pharmacists navigate the first few years of their profession. With a conference theme of ‘Reconnecting with care’, the emphasis of the 2021 event will be on regrouping, sharing stories and celebrating the successes of 2020 in a safe environment. The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, the event organiser, is finalising its Covid Safe Event Plan for the conference. The Guild has secured grant support through a $50 million Business Events Grants program launched by the federal government for exhibitors and attendees. To be eligible for the funding, delegates and exhibitors must spend a minimum of $20,000 to qualify for a return of as much as 50 per cent. APP2021 will take place from 20-23 May at the Gold Coast Convention Centre. ‘Super early bird’ registrations are open until 8 February, saving you up to $200. ‘Early bird’ registrations are open from 9 February to 29 March. For full program details and to register, visit: appconference.com     $10K GRANT WINNERS PLAN ON MOVING AUSSIES TO FITNESS Winners of the Heart Foundation’s 2020 Active Australia Innovation Challenge for community based project ideas aimed at getting people moving include skateboarding and scooting workshops for outback kids, and cultural dance workshops for the blind and vision impaired. These are among 10 winning proposals for which community groups will each receive a $10,000 grant to turn their projects into reality. This third annual challenge attracted 306 entries. The 10 winners for 2020 are: Blind Sports & Recreation Victoria: A Vision for Dance through Music. Multicultural dance workshops for the blind and vision impaired will include an introduction to each culture and an easy-to-follow dance lesson. Ashfield Public School, NSW: Traversing Wall. The wall to be installed at the school will be similar to a rock-climbing facility, but instead of climbing, children will move along the wall at a safe height. Improving and Promoting Community Health, Victoria: binGO MOVE. Targeting over-65s in the Wyndham area of Melbourne who statistically show as unfit and worsened by Covid-19, a modified game of bingo will use exercises as well as numbers for the gameplay. Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation, Northern Territory: Brighter Communities. A ‘colour fun run’ in nine remote Aboriginal communities will involve participants who start out with a white T-shirt and are showered with water and coloured powders along the route. Belgium Avenue Neighbourhood House, Victoria: Collingwood High-Rise Health Program. Two initiatives in inner Melbourne include women’s-only gym classes allowing young Muslim women to exercise comfortably, and weekly activities for senior residents from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Millennium Kids Inc, Western Australia: Getting Active on Country. Skateboarding and scooting workshops for about 30 young people will be held in remote Coolgardie where kids have limited access to recreational activities. Summit Health, South Australia: Move n Care. A group exercise program for carers in the Adelaide Hills, designed by the carers themselves.
