NEWS IN FOCUS 12
RET AIL PHARMA C Y • MA Y 2020
During this time, the health of our people and wider
community are our top priority. As such, we’ve paused
field-based activities. However, we recognise the extremely
important role of pharmacies, and our team are still here to
support you in any way they can.
While everyone’s experience is different as we navigate the
changing environment, it feels like we’re all working harder
than ever to support containment efforts and the health and
wellbeing of those in our community. I urge you not to forget
about yourselves or your families as you strive to help others.
I know how easy it is to get caught up in the situation. From my
experience, keeping some sense of routine and carving out
quality time for loved ones each day has helped to maintain
perspective and balance.
Thank you again for your valuable contribution and
collaboration. Stay safe and well.
Mark Hooper, CEO, Sigma Healthcare.
This year has certainly been an inspirational
period of commitment and determination
from everyone who works with Sigma
Healthcare, including our own team
members, suppliers and pharmacy partners,
to get the required medicines to the
community at times of extreme hardship.
The year started with the bushfires raging across Australia
and the efforts to get the necessary medicines to often cut-off
communities, sometimes with the help of army helicopters
or firefighters.
Now and for the foreseeable future, all areas of healthcare
are dealing with the impacts of COVID-19. Again, I’d like to
express my sincere thanks to everyone in the pharmaceutical
supply chain for getting on with the job in the face of
significantly increased demand and community anxiety.
In particular, I’d like to call out the healthcare workers,
including pharmacists, who are all at the frontline dealing with
often worried and sometimes sick patients. They have their
own families to look after and are working hard to ensure their
own staff remain safe and supported.
In these challenging times, it’s the collective efforts of all
involved in health service that deliver the critical support the
community needs.
Anne Harris, Managing Director Pfizer
Australia & New Zealand.
“Pfizer Australia is extremely grateful to
all frontline pharmacists and healthcare
professionals who are responding to
the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure the
health and safety of Australians. We know
it’s a very difficult time for pharmacists,
their families and staff, and we’re thankful for their commitment
to serving our community.
Our daily lives at home have completely changed in the
past few weeks. We have the complexity of home schooling,
combined with working from home, with everyone in the same
space and a lot of screen time. Our dog, Ollie, is the happiest
that we’re all at home!
It’s also been a time to slow down, spend more time together
