REINVENTING PHARMACY OF THE YEAR FOR 2021 Reflecting on the challenges and changes presented to the sector this year, the Pharmacy Guild says the Pharmacy of the Year award program for 2021 will move away from its traditional format and instead showcase what all community pharmacies have done and continue to do during these challenging times. This means the traditional process where pharmacies either self-nominate or are nominated by branches or QCPP assessors will no longer occur and neither will the judging process which includes visits to finalist pharmacies. With the new format there will be no application processes for Pharmacy of the Year 2021. Guild National President George Tambassis says the format will be inclusive of the whole profession. “This format will allow 2021 to be seen as a year of reflection and celebration of all community pharmacies and their contribution to the health of Australians,” he said. “It will highlight the responses to the bushfires, COVID-19, their adaptations, transformations and the integral role they’ve played in their communities and for their patients.” Pharmacy of the Year award sponsor Care Pharmaceuticals agrees that the unique approach to the award in 2021 is an opportunity to reflect on the great work of the sector as a whole. “This year will be long remembered as perhaps the most challenging in the profession’s history, but throughout it community pharmacies have continued to operate and work to meet the needs of their patients,” Care Pharmaceuticals General Manager Jonathan Biddle said. “This community spirit and commitment will be reflected in the new format and I look forward to seeing some of the wonderful achievements of the often- unsung heroes in pharmacy being recognised and highlighted,” he said. The Guild says it will work closely with its members and the community across Australia to find the stories from the coalface – the pharmacies that have stood out, made significant differences to their communities, innovated and adapted to address the changing landscape and needs of patients. These, it says, are the “exemplar pharmacies that Pharmacy of the Year 2021 will recognise and celebrate”. EVENTS 17 REGISTRATION TIME FOR CHP DIAMOND AWARDS Consumer Healthcare Products (CHP) Australia has opened registrations for this year’s Diamond Awards, which will now be open to both members and non-members. CHP says the Diamond Awards celebrate marketing excellence in the consumer healthcare products industry, recognising those who execute campaigns that are not only innovative and compelling, but also support the quality use of medicines and marketing best practice. “Advertising and marketing are about creatively and effectively executing against an objective to address relevant brand challenges,” CHP Australia Director of Business Development Brenda Davy said. • • • The Diamond Awards categories include: Best Launch of a Consumer Healthcare Product. Best Marketing Campaign of a Consumer+ Healthcare Product – Large Budget (>$1m). Best Marketing Campaign of a Consumer+ Healthcare Product – Small Budget (<$1m). Best Professional Marketing Campaign. Best Digital/Social Media Campaign. Best PR Campaign. Best Data Strategy Award. • • • • The same campaigns can be nominated for consideration in multiple categories, if eligible, and companies can submit multiple campaigns across the awards. Registrations for the 2020 Diamond Awards are due by July 15, followed by the full entries by August 20. The winners will be announced in November. THE IMPORTANCE OF EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION While most employers have the best intentions when it comes to recognising those staff who go above and beyond, leadership expert Kim Harrison says employee recognition often falls by the wayside in many businesses. Employee recognition should be an employer’s top priority, he says, as it is a fail-safe strategy to motivate employees to benefit their business. Mr Harrison says he believes successful employers understand that appreciation is a fundamental human need and identify the importance of being appreciated. “Employees respond to appreciation expressed through recognition of their good work because it confirms their work is valued by others,” he said. “When employees and their work are valued, their satisfaction and productivity rises, and they’re motivated to maintain or improve their good work.” The Pharmacy Guild says that in pharmacy, one such way of recognising the hard work of your staff is nominating them for the Pharmacy Guild of Australia/Maxigesic Pharmacy Assistant of the Year (PATY) Award. The award provides a public platform to recognise the high value pharmacy assistants contribute to their pharmacies, the community and the industry. This year’s award, which is being contested entirely online, is now open to all Australian pharmacy assistants with a minimum of two years’ industry experience. Prizes include $5,000 cash and a Guild Training course for the national winner. To nominate one of your outstanding pharmacy assistants, visit: pharmacyassistants.com/paty. Third party nominations close August 17, with self- nominations and responses closing September 7.
